If you need to do any nontrivial integration of .NET with COM (or other unmanaged code), you need this book. It's a huge and difficult topic full of pitfalls. You really cannot get enough from scattered blog entries and StackOverflow questions; this is a coherent and comprehensive guide. The detail and depth is astounding - nearly every page reveals a tip or a catch or a trick. The coverage is wide, the examples are comprehensive.Since the COM integration in the .NET runtime has not changed substantially, after nearly ten years this book is still as valuable as ever.(By sure you receive both volumes if you are buying second-hand.)
I read Troelsen's book on COM/.NET interroperability. This two volume set easily exceeds in content. Both books provide valuable information that I use regularly in developing .NET solutions that use COM as clients and servers. If I had to have only one selection, I would choose these books (Adam Nathan's) for the extensive content.
The book is 1608 pages - 50% more than a James Michner book. It's published by Sam's. What more could it have against it?Yet it's a good book. If you're talking between .Net and COM it's got the information you need. Any chapter you open it to has good, readable information when you feel like browsing. It lies flat on a table when opened. What more could you ask for in a book?Definitely worth the price.
I can't believe it! It is awsome book which I haven't seen any of COM book better than this before. I am not a professional programmer but after reading this book, I feel so good about my knowledge in windows programming and specially in the NET FRAME WORK. I bought a lots of Dot net books and still confusing about this new technology. But the ".NET and COM" is totally different. It clearly explains everything and giving the reader a really good concept. Eventhough, I haven't finished the book yet, but I can give the author 5 stars rate. Luckily, I bought this book with a cheap price and I 've got a huge information about COM and NET. I hope my future will get better cause of those information. Buy this book and buy "Applied the Net frame work" of Jeffrey Richter, you will not regret for what you do.
They claim this is a two volume set. Both volumes appear to be bound together in one heavy book. Seems to be very thorough and am presently attempting to learn from it. Shipping took a long time.
First I didnt realize its from SAMS, they have a certain style of writing; its from 2001 so its not a newer c# reference.If youre looking for a book thats older, from the era when running Windows NT 4.0 was normal, win95 was still commonly used? this is it.unfortunately both books they shipped, part A and part B were on the inside, part B. so I dont know how it starts. but starting at page 810 skimming thru it looks to be well done
