missing home-I have always loved the architecture and history of my home town. This is a decent book. The only recent that I only gave 4 stars is that I found a couple of minor errors in the history. However for the photos it is great. There is an older book of the same title that is better. However this is a good book-better than most.
The timing of the Great Chicago Fire was such that much of Chicago was built in the 1890's and much of it is still standing. The things that have been torn down were all photographed, making modern-day Chicago a very interesting mix of old and new...and much of "new Chicago" is a reflection of the "lost buildings" that we see here in this great book.
Beautiful pictures of Chicago. My father was born and grew up in the windy city, and I always try to buy him something from home. He may not live there anymore, but I think his heart will always be there. I bought him this book as a Christmas gift, and he loves it. Highly recommended for any Chicago lover.
Wonderful photo review of Chicago's history
Going back through time with architectural collection of Old Chicago. I certainly enjoyed this book of Chicago from another era and wished some of the old buildings were still around to add to the beauty of the city especially around the museum campus
For those who enjoy reading about things Chicago, this is a great book, especially if you are familiar with Chicago and can personalize many of the places identified in the book.
