Eyewitness did a decent job this time. I usually get Eyewitness due to the amount of photos in the guides. It gives me ideas for my own photographs. The guide itself as always has a small and bad selection of food recommendations. The rest of the guide itself includes the history and tells you about the main highlights. It never takes you off the beaten trail. For a general idea of the surrounding area and to help start plan your trip, this would be a good guide. If you want something more serious, just search around on the internet.
I'm a visual person, and DK never lets me down when I travel to a new place and what to learn about museums, points of interest, etc. As I mentioned in another review, I recommend buying another guide to accompany the DK guide - since it's lacking in bars, restaurants, clubs, hotels, and the like. I think the Time Out Madrid guide would make a good companion guide (alongside the DK guide).
I love all the DK travel books. They are great reading on their own and cover history as well as most of the sights that need to be seen. They are a great introduction but depending on what you want to do, I recommend other travel books in conjunction for detail and advice. There is much they don't cover especially practical advice and up to date hints for maximizing your stay.
I love the DK Eyewitness travel guides. They are organized very well and include helpful hints and recommendations that are spot-on. Madrid had a map at the back that included a full metro map with all the lines & stops too. Very helpful!
DK Eyewitness travel books are the most update and packed with very useful information fortourists. Be sure to buy the newest or latest edition because places and prices, etc. change often.
I think I'm done with the DK series of city guides. The Madrid guide highlights the obvious tourist locations, recommended restaurants and shopping were disappointing. Good city center map, except the Metro map was too small to use in low light.
Very good. Maps were better from the concierge at the hotel.
Very useful for our trip to Madrid. It's map was our favorite among several we used. Very accurate and easy to follow.
